Terms of Service
These terms cover engagements with Jason Burns (sole trader, England) for SEO, GEO and AI consultancy. They sit alongside the proposal or scope email you receive before any paid work starts - if anything in the proposal contradicts these terms, the proposal wins.
The work
I provide independent consultancy: technical SEO, generative engine optimisation (GEO), AI workflow design, content strategy, training and audits. The exact scope is agreed in writing before work starts.
Pricing and payment
- Day rate is £450. Half day £225. Multi-day projects from £1,800. Monthly retainers from £1,800. Current rates are on the pricing page.
- Day and project work is invoiced on completion. Retainers are invoiced monthly in advance.
- Payment terms are 14 days from invoice date unless your proposal says otherwise.
- Payment is by UK bank transfer (BACS). Late invoices accrue statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
- VAT is not charged unless explicitly noted (sole trader, currently below the threshold).
Cancellation and notice
- Day and project work. Once started, the agreed deliverables are completed and invoiced. If you cancel after work has begun, you pay for time and materials already used.
- Retainers. Either side can end a retainer with 30 days' written notice. There is no minimum term beyond the first month.
- Postponement. Bookings can be moved with at least 5 working days' notice at no cost. Inside that window, half the day rate applies.
Intellectual property
Anything I produce specifically for you (audits, briefs, recommendations, custom content, custom prompts) becomes yours once the invoice is paid. My underlying tools, frameworks and templates remain mine - you have a perpetual licence to use what was delivered, but not to resell my methods as your own.
Confidentiality
I treat your data, plans, account access and metrics as confidential. I will not share them outside the engagement except where required by law. I am happy to sign a separate NDA if you need one.
Results
SEO, GEO and AI work depends on factors outside my control - search engine algorithm changes, model behaviour shifts, your site's technical state, your team's execution. I commit to doing the work to a senior professional standard. I do not guarantee specific rankings, traffic numbers or business outcomes.
Liability
To the extent permitted by English law, my total liability for any engagement is capped at the fees you have paid me for that engagement in the previous 12 months. I am not liable for indirect, consequential or business-interruption losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Subcontracting
I work directly. I do not subcontract client work to third parties without your written agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
Changes
If these terms change for new engagements, I update this page. Existing engagements run on the terms in force when they started.
